Sleipner Motor have been part of the maritime history
in Norway for over 100 years.
Founded in Sarpsborg in 1908, the company moved to Fredrikstad in 1910, building the first small part (as seen on the left) of the factory Sleipner is still operating from.
In periods there were hundreds of manufacturers of small petrol engines, but what set Sleipner apart from most was that they operated
their own foundry.
At that time the production was inboard engines with associated propulsion equipment as well as for a period outboard engines.
The Sleipner Motor's were known to be very reliable and sturdy, and still today there are houndreds of motors more than 50 years old still in use around Norway.
The anniversary book about Sleipner; "A century of serving mariners" has been made with Norwegian and English text and is available from Sleipner.

Today Sleipner Motor AS is the global leading supplier of electric and hydraulic thruster systems, steering systems and other technical boating equipment. In the OEM market Sleipner Motor AS? Sidepower is the preferred thruster brand by the vast majority of the leading boat builders in the world. With a consistent growth over the past years Sleipner Motor AS now counts over 80 employees. In addition to the main factory in Fredrikstad, Norway, Sleipner also operates a factory in Sweden and have subsidiaries in the UK and Sweden.
Perhaps the core of the company and a main factor setting Sleipner apart from most of the rest of the international marine equipment industry is the fact that Sleipner truly builds technical marine products "for boaters, by boaters". All of the management of Sleipner as well as most of the product development engineers are passionate boaters. This brings a level of attention to the products we design and manufacture to a different level as well as enabling us to bring out products that boaters actually wants and needs, with the right features, safety and reliability as we all want for ourselves in our own boats.
By having many different boats easily available, we are also able to test and try products in their proper environment before they are put to market.
Sleipner Motor was awarded as "Company of the year" for 2004 for their region in Norway and "Export company of the year" for 2008.
